With the premise of respecting the protection zone of historical architectures, this scheme preserves the entire style of Shikumen new lane in the southwest corner of the base for special stores; furthermore, the stores alongside Changle Road and Ruijin Road retain the Shikumen styles. Only the interiors of the new lanes are repaired and a few small courtyards are arranged to accommodate the merchants; moreover, the north and east sides of the Shikumen are decorated with modern methods as a transition between new and old architectures.

The preserved villas within the base are removed to southeast corner, along the street for reconstruction. As the area is mainly occupies by high-grade commerce and centralized offices, there retains the continuation of the Changle Road Shikumen-style facade as well as adds particular external linkage to the functions within the villas, making the villa's functional orientation and environmental position complement each other.

The facade of the newly-built commercial office building mainly adopts modern style, while in the podiums near the Shikumen group, small-scale facade design is adopted to correspond with the scale of Shikumen group, making the commercial facade more diversified at the same time. The office tower and the podium buildings are integrated, where the facade complies with the general current, flowing from the air atrium at the top of every tower through the facade to the top of podiums. Coupling method is adopted in designing the top of the two towers, making the two towers corresponding to each other.

Due to the aviation restricted height of the entire region, the circumjacent buildings of the base are mostly linear high-rise buildings with restrict height of 43 meters, and, in view of little interspaces, are striving for as more exterior space as possible; to reduce the pressure of theses exterior buildings on the base, the high buildings within the base are arranged circling the base. To the south of the base is the golf course, forging good landscape. Therefore, there forms the layout of being high in the east, west and north while low in the center and the south, as well as opening to the golf course in the south. The construction planning layout is basically formed, with plaza and courtyard in the center and connected buildings all around. The design again borrows the notions of loop and circulation, forming a pattern of nesting enclosure of the circumjacent buildings and a matching form of architectures. The inner courtyard formed through derivative sub-division serves for their respective group. The group's inner courtyard connects and links with the Center Garden mutually, blending with the bottom building commercial space of the planned area, forming a pattern of continuous life and growth and humanized and harmonious atmosphere together.

The architectural appearance keeps the notion of stacked loop and circulation adopted in overall layout, with the overall pattern flourishingly natural and flowing. This pattern corresponds to the circumjacent linear buildings close to the red line, softening the exterior pressure with curve form, while simultaneously the soft and round form faces the exterior environment in a gracious and humble manner. Especially, the arc processing along the street and at the corner avoids the buildings from having visual stimulation and pressure to the roads and surroundings; yet in stead the richly vivid visual perception and fascinating enjoyment, together with the facade of the curve circulation turn the building itself into beautiful scenery.

The design concept proposed is exemplified in the thematic title of "a multi-modern gate of the city" given the comprehensive value of commercial, traffic and landmark status of this project. This project encompasses the landmark building focus on space organization and culture generation for this location.

Space organization is based on our objective to build the most creative office and business space, including various gardens (includes down block, basement atrium, hanging garden), utilizing continuous people-flow linking them together to realize a level, vertical and inclined circulation. Culturally, a multi-storied building or a high-rise emphasizes the mixture of traditional and modern elements, combining classical Shanghai motifs with the most contemporary architecture closely. As a result, both space and shape reflect an attainable deep historical significance.

The design theme of "less is more" seeks a harmony of exact structure and suitable scale. The design charm is expressed in a dignified and graceful manner, especially when factoring in the comparatively narrow space. This design outcome reflects exceptional organization of multi-storied buildings and high-rises, unity of efficient planning and interesting shapes, while concentrating on a mixture of modern and classical elements. Principles of classical architectural, including simplicity and harmony in the modern elements, the aluminum alloy joist on the exterior wall, and light gray glass walls have been applied. The use of eaves mouldings, string courses, triglyphs, and column orders link classicism to organic modern form. The indoor plaza, semi-basement square, and hanging garden emphasize the unique landscape and enlarge the perceptible area. Finally, the project achieves maximum benefit through the application of elegant classical elements divided by the use of the golden section, the locale's history, and development of the basement commercial area.

Located in the northwest of the comprehensive transportation hub of Hongjiao, Shanghai, Huacao modern business district displays fully its transportation advantages, as well as its great upgrading possibility of the cultural tastes.

For the promotion of a city's image and value, it is pivotal for us to design landmark building representing the typical style of Shanghai city, a international metropolis and as well demonstrating wholly the intrinsic cultural links with the formation and development of the Shanghai city; fashion is brought up by the reflection of aesthetic value concept and the transmission of traditional Chinese culture, which can also be interpreted as the vitality of fashion depends on essence-seeking of the classics with the inheritance and innovation on the basis of modem aesthetic understanding.

The design concept of the single building in Huacao modern business district is dirived from the classical Art Deco. As to the exterior details of the building, decorative patterns and units of ART-DECO style are skillfully used, leading to an enhancement of an agreeable architectural hierarchy, while harmonious alterations of innervation and shadows of the building are heightened by the architectural features of twisting, circuity and well-proportion. Meanwhile, what worth mentioning is that vertical lines are employed to stress the building's vertical composition relation, generating the effect of imposing extraordinary. Corresponding with the spirit of Shanghai modern culture "all-embracing and innovation-seeking", the application of the construction technologies and materials is featured by straightforward decoration style, the employment of fresh ingredients to reveal the beauty of the whole and the persuit of the uniqueness of the single building.
